Magnificent collection of Warbirds. Impressive restoration projects. Nice atmosphere. Came to see the PoF museum which is next door but never knew that the Yanks...
Here come the jets.
With the support of the USAF and Pentagon the F-15 Eagle and F-16 Fighting Falcon were transferred to Yanks through GSA in June of 2011. The call to "come and get them" came from Ed Crenshaw, the property custodian and a 982nd Maintenance Squadron logistics program manager located at Sheppard AFB TX.
The Yanks crew headed out of So Cal to begin the daunting task of preparing the two fighters for their trip home. Four days on the road, heat and pouring rain did not discourage the Yanks crew from the disassembly and loading of the two extraordinary jet aircraft.
Checking in on September 10th we realized the base was a clean, well-run operation. "The team at Sheppard AFB was cooperative and very professional" stated Frank Wright Operations Manager for the Yanks Air Museum.
By Friday the 14th the two aircraft were loaded and heading for home. The crew remained to build a wing rack for two wings. All had arrived back at Yanks by time to unload and within about 4 hours the jets were on the ground at the restoration hangar.
