Elrey Jeppessen

Jeppessen (1907-1996) is famous for his development of navigational aids for pilots.

In the early days of flight, pilots relied on landmarks and road-type maps. Jeppessen’s new charts highlighted landmarks, elevations of obstructions and airport runways. The manuals proved effective, and United Airlines bought the charts for their pilots.

During World War II, "Jepp Charts" were adapted by the Navy as their standard flight manual.

Jeppessen Sanderson Company is one of the world's leading publishers of air navigational information and flight training systems.
