Phoebe Fairgrave Omlie

In 1927, Omlie (1902-1975) became the first U.S. woman to earn an aircraft mechanic license.

Omlie also held an airline transport license and was a pilot for Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s successful presidential campaign.  She was the first U.S. female appointed to a federal post in aviation.

Among the aircraft flown by Omlie was a Curtiss JN-4 Jenny.
