Kreider-Reisner C-2 Challenger

This is the first of the impressive "Challenger" aircraft line, the C-2 is best known for its favorable performance, good value ($2240 plus engine in 1928) and lack of bad habits. Some notable construction details include the "free air" vertical radiator and sturdy gear that could survive a pasture landing or as it was now known, an "airport".

The C-2 carries ATC #19 and was powered by the Curtiss 0X-5 a reliable, available and affordable engine. This engine was prominent in civil and commercial aircraft development and the best thing to happen to early aviation. The 0X-5 weighed 490 pounds, produced 90 horsepower, and on 35 gallons of fuel the aircraft could cruise for five hours.

Kreider-Reisner Aircraft Co. (K-R) was a partnership between Amos Kreider and L E Reisner. Having operated flying services since 1925, the partners developed a new aircraft wish list, since no one wanted to build it, they did. In 1929 K-R became a subsidiary of Fairchild and continued to produce the Fairchild KR line.
